Lady Ospreys look to avenge losses to both teams
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida women's volleyball team returns home this weekend for matches against Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson.
The Lady Ospreys (4-22, 1-9 Atlantic Sun Conference) will kick off the weekend at 7 p.m. on Friday in a non-conference match against FGCU. UNF fell 3-0 (14-30, 14-30, 18-30) to the Eagles on Oct. 19 in Fort Myers. UNF was held to a season-low -.052 hitting percentage and committed 25 errors. Junior Bary Rasmussen led the Lady Ospreys with six kills.
FGCU brings a 21-2 overall record into the contest and is in first place in the A-Sun with a 9-1 conference mark. The Eagles have won seven in a row. Two-time A-Sun Player of the Week Ana Kokanovic leads the Eagles with 3.71 kills per game. FGCU has two players hitting better than .400.
UNF will wrap things up with a 2 p.m. A-Sun contest on Saturday against the Stetson Hatters. Stetson beat the Lady Ospreys 3-0 (30-27, 30-25, 30-9) in a non-conference affair on Aug. 25 in the Georgia Southern Invitational. It was UNF's third match of the season. Rasmussen led the Lady Ospreys in that match with nine kills. Senior Maegan Weisert, whose shoulder was not yet healthy enough to allow her to play on the outside, led UNF on defense at libero with 11 digs.
Stetson stands at 3-7 in the conference and has an 8-15 overall record. The Hatters picked up a conference win over Kennesaw State last Saturday to snap a seven-match losing streak. Rebecca Orzechowicz, who had a match-high 13 kills against UNF in Stetson's win earlier this season, leads the Hatters with 3.39 kills per game.
