JACKSONVILLE, Fla., (Oct. 28, 2007) - The University of North Florida women's soccer team (6-11-1, 5-5 A-Sun) fell to the Belmont Bruins on Sunday afternoon, 2-0, on what was suppose to be a joyous occasion. The Lady Ospreys celebrated senior day prior to the match, while hosting a 25th-Year Celebration at halftime.
UNF once again outshot its opponent, taking a 6-4 advantage, while also having the upper hand in shots on goal 4-3. Junior goalkeeper Rachael Howard had one save in the game, while Belmont keeper Micaela Crowley had four.
The Lady Ospreys battled strong in the first half, with both teams heading into the locker rooms tied 0-0.
Belmont came out firing in the second half, scoring its first goal in the 60th minute. Erica Carter scored her first goal of the game after receiving a Kassidy Brown pass and slipping it past Howard.
UNF nearly earned the goal back in the 61st minute, when Alejandra Castanos took a free kick from the top of the 18-yard box. Belmont sealed the deal in the 88th minute, when Carter broke away from the UNF defense.
The Lady Ospreys return to action on Wednesday when they take on cross-town rival Jacksonville at Hodges Stadium. The game is set for 7 p.m.
