JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The North Florida men's tennis team overcame its "bump" in the road earlier this week with a strong performance against Northern Illinois on Wednesday, posting a 7-0 win at the UNF Tennis Complex.
UNF (9-5) looked less than impressive in a 6-1 loss to Indiana on Monday, but rebounded in big fashion against the Huskies (3-7), going three sets in only one singles match while sweeping doubles play.
"I was proud of the guys with how they responded after losing like we did against Indiana," UNF head coach Igal Buberman said. "I thought we showed much more energy and effort today. It was good to get back on the winning track."
In doubles play, the Ospreys made quick work - getting an 8-5 win from German Escallon and Leonardo Gomes at the No. 1 position and an 8-2 victory from Jose Terrera and Matias Sigal at the No. 2 spot. Elad Gabay and Eduardo Pereira then rounded out doubles with an 8-3 win at the No. 3 position.
After that, UNF took control in singles - getting easy wins from Pereira (No. 1), Sigal (No. 2), Terrera (No. 3), Gabay (No. 4) and Marshall (No. 6). The only trouble spot of the afternoon came at the No. 5 position, where German Escallon fell behind NIU's Jimmy Chu but rallied for a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 victory.
UNF will play its second of three matches in consecutive days on Thursday when it plays host to East Carolina. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
