NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The
University of North Florida men's basketball team
hung with Lipscomb for 35 minutes of play, but went
cold down the stretch in a 68-54 loss at on Saturday
at Allen Arena.
"The guys did a great job with the game plan," UNF
head coach Matt Kilcullen said. "We need to make
sound fundamental plays in the last five minutes of
play and that's a matter of growing up. We found
ourselves as a team, and I'm happy with the
progress. We played them tooth and nail for 35
minutes."
The Ospreys (1-7, 0-2 A-Sun) gave Lipscomb (6-2,
2-0 A-Sun) - picked to finish second in the Atlantic
Sun this year - a scare, keeping the Bison's high-
powered offense at bay most of the afternoon. Trey
Williams finally took over down the stretch, finishing
with a game high 27 points, while hitting eight shots
beyond the 3-point arc.
Three Ospreys scored in double figures, led by
Rashad Williams who scored 13 points. Chris Timberlake and James Grimball scored 10 points
apiece for the Ospreys.
UNF trailed 11-7 after Williams nailed a pair of 3-
pointers, but started a comeback effort from there,
eventually grabbing a three-point lead on a Chris Timberlake 3-pointer that Aaron Caruthers followed
up with a free throw. The Ospreys extended that
lead to four after Caruthers hit two more free
throws.
The teams went back and forth for the last five
minutes of the half before a Timberlake layup gave
UNF a 30-27 advantage. The Ospreys led by two at
the half.
Timberlake scored all 10 of his points in the first half,
while Williams had 13 for Lipscomb. UNF held the
Bisons to 24 percent shooting for the half, while UNF
hit 11-of-18 shots from the floor (61 percent).
UNF wet through more than a five minute scoring
drought until Rashad Williams hit a jumper to give the
Ospreys a 39-37 lead.
Lipscomb finally went on a 14-8 run to close out the
victory.
Gallo Cham led UNF with seven rebounds, as the
Ospreys had a 32-30 advantage on the boards.
Lipscomb's Eddie Ard and Jason Hopkins led all
players with six rebounds.
UNF turned the ball over 20 times and held the Bisons
to 24 percent shooting for the game Lipscomb hit 11-
of-28 3-pointers.
The Ospreys are back in action on Friday when they
travel to William and Mary for a 7 p.m. matchup.
