
Lady Ospreys fall to
sharp shooting Georgia State

ORLANDO, Fla. (Dec. 19, 2006) - The
University of North Florida women's basketball team
dropped its second-straight game at the UCF Holiday
Classic, falling 76-41 to Georgia State at UCF Arena.
The Lady Panthers (6-4) shot 58 percent for the
game, while the Lady Ospreys (2-8) shot 25 percent
in dropping their third-straight game overall.
Jennifer Bowen led the Lady Ospreys with 11 points
on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor, while Shennette Sheffield saw her first action of the year and pulled
down a team high six rebounds.
Two Lady Panthers had two players finish the game
with double-doubles, as Danyiell McKeller scored 14
and pulled down 10 rebounds, while Brittany Hollins
scored 10 and dished out 11 assists.
Georgia State went on 25-2 run that carried over
from the first to the second half, breaking open a
seven-point lead and never looking back from there.
UNF won the turnover battle, forcing the Lady
Panthers into 24, while turning the ball over 22 times.
The Lady Ospreys had nine steals on the night, with
Shandrea Moore collecting four of those.
Georgia State won the rebound battle 42-30.
Making her first start of the season in place of the
injured Antoinette Reames, Willonda Windham picked
up two fouls in the first five minutes of play, as
Georgia State took an early advantage. The Lady
Panthers led by as many as nine in the first eight
minutes before expanding that lead to 32-15 with
8:19 to play.
UNF went cold from the field in the final 12 minutes
of the opening half, trailing 41-19 at the break. The
Lady Ospreys trailed 21-14 with 12:23 to play, but
only scored five points the rest of the half.
GSU's McKeller led all players with 11 points, while
Jennifer Guldager and Alisha Preston each had four
points to lead UNF in the opening half.
That cold shooting continued in the second half for
the Lady Ospreys, who missed their first five shots
and watched the Georgia State lead expand to 46-
19. The Lady Panthers controlled the game the rest
of the way, improving their record to 2-0 at the UCF
Holiday Classic.
McKeller led all players with 10 rebounds, while Moore
was second on the UNF squad with five rebounds.
UNF returns to action and will open its home slate on
Dec. 29 when it hosts Hofstra at 2 p.m.
