MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Feb. 26, 2005) - Columbus State's Trent Bianco scored an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth inning on an errant throw by North Florida to take a 3-2 win over UNF on the second day of the UAH Spring Classic at Montgomery's Paterson Field.
Bianco walked to open the inning and advanced to second on a groundout. Sloan Burgess came up next and put the ball in play to first base, where UNF first baseman Marion Knowles fielded it and couldn't connect with pitcher Jared Incinelli on the throw to first - allowing Bianco to score.
UNF (8-6) battled back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game with a Jon Skorupski RBI-double in the fourth and a Matt Oxendine RBI-groundout in the eighth. Nick Shay and Billy Howard had RBI hits in the first three innings to push Columbus State (7-8) ahead early.
Tony Polster started for UNF, allowing two runs and six hits in 2.1 innings. Incinelli (0-1) came on in the third inning and pitched well - allowing two hits and two walks in 5.2 innings - but suffered the loss.
Senior Brian Baker (2-1) earned the win for Columbus State, pitching a complete game. He allowed five hits and one earned run while striking out nine. He did not walk a batter. He also overcame five errors by the defense behind him.
Saturday's game was a non-conference meeting between the squads and will not count toward the Peach Belt Conference standings.
Oxendine was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI for UNF, while Skorupski was 2-for-3.
The UAH Spring Classic will conclude on Sunday when UNF plays fifth-ranked Tampa at 1 p.m. ET and Columbus State plays Alabama-Huntsville at 4 p.m. ET.
