Madie Sims joined the UNF Athletics Department as an assistant coach for the beach volleyball program in October of 2019. In June of 2020 she added the title of beach volleyball recruiting coordinator and indoor volleyball director of operations.
In addition to coaching duties on and off the sidelines, Sims works heavily in organization and logistics throughout the beach volleyball program.Â
Since coming to the First Coast, Sims has seen UNF turn in a 26-16 record, earning the program’s first ASUN Championship since 2016 in addition to UNF’s first-ever American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Collegiate Beach Volleyball ranking.Â
During her first-full season in the 2021, Sims and the rest of the North Florida staff successfully navigated its way to two of the best seasons in the indoor and beach volleyball program’s histories. The staff did so while managing simultaneous seasons following the COVID-19 altered calendar year.Â
In 2021 North Florida earned six ASUN Postseason honors, while Dana Roskic and Antonia Harrison received ASUN Championship Pair of the Tournament and AVCA Top Flight honors for their play at the first pair.
Sims comes to UNF after a successful collegiate playing career in indoor and beach volleyball, and one year as a student assistant coach for the indoor and beach volleyball programs at Texas A&M Kingsville.
The Farmington, New Mexico, native began collegiate ball at MiraCosta College in Oceanside, Calif., where she played for current UNF Director of Volleyball Kristen Wright. During the two-year stint in Oceanside, Sims received a slew of individual and team accolades on the indoor and beach side.Â
After earning her associates in 2016, Sims moved on to play two years of beach volleyball for the AVCA DII powerhouse, Texas A&M Kingsville. At Kingsville she helped the Javelinas win the 2018 AVCA DII National title.Â
