Stephen Perkins was named an assistant coach for the Ospreys in August of 2013. His responsibilities include on-court coaching, recruiting, scouting, academic support, equipment as well as managing summer camps.
Perkins came to UNF following a four-year stint on the coaching staff at Polk State College in Winter Haven, Fla. At Polk, Perkins served three seasons as assistant coach before being promoted to associate head coach in his final season.
During his time at Polk State, Perkins was a key contributor to helping the Eagles make three state tournament appearances along with claiming two Suncoast Conference Championships including the 2013 crown with a record of 22-9. Perkins also helped lead the Eagles to the Suncoast Conference tournament title in 2012.
Prior to his time at Polk, Perkins spent three seasons as a student assistant coach at Baylor, where he assisted the coaching staff in the day-to-day operations of the basketball program. While with the Bears, he was part of the program’s first trip to the NCAA Tournament in 20 years along with an appearance in the 2009 NIT championship game.
Perkins began his coaching career with an eight-year stint as the head coach at Collinsville (Ill.) Christian Academy, located outside of St. Louis. At Collinsville, he guided the Warriors to a pair (1999, 2004) of Top 5 national rankings in the final NACA polls. Perkins also garnered conference Coach of the Year accolades in 2004-05, while leading his prep alma mater.
A 2009 graduate from Baylor with an education degree in human health performance and recreation, Perkins is married to the former Jennifer Hargrave.
