After spending two seasons as UNF's Director of Basketball Operations, Byron Taylor was named a full-time assistant coach for the Ospreys in May of 2011.

Taylor is involved with a variety of areas including recruiting, on-court instruction, opponent scouting, skill development, team travel, team academic progress, community outreach, video coordinator and liaison for student coaches, graduate managers, and interns.

He joined the Ospreys after completing his playing career at Florida A&M in 2008-09. The Tallahassee, Fla., native was a three-year letterwinner for the Rattlers, appearing in 84 career games. Taylor was a member of the 2006-07 FAMU squad, that won the MEAC conference tournament and played in the NCAA Tournament.

Taylor graduated from FAMU with a bachelor of science in economics and a minor in business, posting a 3.21 GPA. He was named to the 2008-09 and 2007-08 MEAC All-Academic Teams. He earned his master’s degree in educational leadership with a concentration in athletic administration from UNF in the spring of 2014, posting a cumulative 3.51 GPA. 

A Florida High School graduate, Taylor was a four-year varsity starter on the basketball team. His father, Barry, played college basketball at UNC Wilmington and was his high school coach during his final three years. His mother, Facquline, is a Florida State graduate.

Taylor is married to the former, Dr. Deidra Jones, a graduate of Florida A&M with a Doctorate of Pharmacy in 2011.
