
Women's Basketball Falls To Stetson

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida Women's Basketball fell to Stetson, 74-56, in UNF Arena Thursday evening.
Junior guard Elle Blatchford and junior guard Alonya Waldon each tacked on 12 points to lead the Ospreys offensively.
Blatchford finished 6-8 from the floor in 30 minutes. For Blatchford, it marked her eighth game this season and 25th career game with 10 or more points.
Waldon contributed 8-12 from the free throw line. It was her sixth ASUN contest, 11th game of the season and the 22nd game of her career with at least 10 points.
After an 11-3 Stetson run to start game, North Florida battled back to tie the game, 13-13, at the 2:18 mark of the first quarter with freshman forward Dezuray McGill converting on an and-one opportunity and sophomore guard Jamisyn Stinson knocking down a three during that stretch. Stetson would regain the lead and take a 20-16 advantage into the second quarter. Â
Stetson would grab their first double digit lead of the game during the 3:29 mark of the second quarter, 38-27. After an 8-0 Stetson run, Waldon fired in five-straight points to cut the Stetson lead to single digits, 41-32, with 29 seconds remaining the second quarter. Alonya Waldon led the Ospreys with 10 first half points on 8-10 from the charity stripe.Â
After an 8-0 run from the Ospreys capped off by a layup from Waldon, UNF narrowed the margin to seven, 53-46, at the 1:57 mark of the third quarter. The score would remain a single-digit contest, as Stetson would take a 56-48 lead into the fourth quarter.Â
The Hatters would push their lead back out to double digits with a three at the 9:18 mark of the fourth quarter.
North Florida would outscore its opponent in the third quarter, 16-12, in points off turnovers, 16-15, in fast break points, 10-7 and in bench points, 19-12.
North Florida welcomes West Georgia to UNF Arena on Saturday, Feb. 7. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
