
Yarimar Francis Garay Named ASUN Defensive Player Of The Week For Second Time This Season

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida Volleyball senior middle blocker Yarimar Francis Garay was named ASUN Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
It marked the second time this season that Francis Garay has earned an ASUN Defensive Player of the Week nod. Francis Garay is the first Osprey to secure two ASUN Defensive Player of the Week awards in the same season since Rocio Moro in 2023.
North Florida has now collected six total ASUN weekly awards in 2026, marking the most for the program since 2022.
The Carolina, P.R., native posted 13 kills on .455 hitting, in addition to a match-high eight total blocks at Lipscomb on Oct. 2. Francis Garay notched 11 kills on .529 hitting to go with a match-high eight total blocks at Bellarmine on Oct. 3.
Across two matches and nine sets played last week, Francis Garay posted 3.61 points per set, 2.67 kills per set, 1.78 blocks per set and .33 digs per set.Â
Francis Garay has now notched six total blocks or more in 13 matches over the last two seasons. She's tallied eight blocks or more in three matches over her last 17 matches played.
North Florida continues its ASUN slate when it travels to Charlotte, N.C., to face Queens at Curry Arena on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. ET. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
