
Volleyball Earns Road Win At Queens, 3-1

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – University of North Florida Volleyball secured its second ASUN Conference road win of the season, defeating Queens, 3-1, at Curry Arena on Friday.
"I'm really proud of this group," Head Coach Abby Gilleland said. "We knew this long stretch of road matches would challenge us, and this team has continued to battle and respond. I'm excited to build on what we've accomplished over the past few weeks. We're looking forward to getting back home and competing in front of our fans!"
The match marked the fourth-straight road match to open ASUNÂ action for North Florida.
Junior outside hitter Dakota Spurrier matched her career-high in kills with 19. Spurrier set a new career-high in digs with 18.
Senior outside hitter Kaili Doctor added 15 kills, in addition to nine digs, four aces and three total blocks.
Senior middle blocker Yarimar Francis Garay rounded out the offense with 10 kills on .471 hitting, in addition to six total blocks.
Senior libero Emma Pohlmann commanded the back row with a team-high 21 digs.
Sophomore setter Sofia Dawson notched a match-high 47 assists, in addition to 12 digs, three kills and one ace.
NORTH FLORIDA 3, QUEENS 1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-23, 26-24)
SET ONE:
Dawson served an ace to help North Florida jump out to a 5-0 lead. Doctor notched an ace to help UNF extend its advantage to 9-1. Back-to-back combined blocks from Francis Garay and sophomore outside hitter Leah McDonald put the Ospreys ahead, 19-10. Doctor put down a kill on set point to secure the frame.
SET TWO:
North Florida trailed, 22-18, though back-to-back kills from Spurrier and Doctor cut UNF's deficit to just two points. However, Queens capped off the frame with a kill to win the set.
SET THREE:
A 4-1 run by North Florida fueled by kills from Francis Garay, Spurrier and sophomore middle blocker Haleina Bowers helped UNF take a 14-13 advantage. The Ospreys earned the final three points of the set behind a pair of kills from Spurrier and Bowers. McDonald served an ace on set point to give North Florida a 2-1 lead in the match.
SET FOUR:
Dawson put down a skip-set kill to tie the tightly contested frame, 6-6. Trailing 11-8, UNF tallied three-straight points to tie the set on kills from Doctor and Spurrier as well as a solo block by Francis Garay. Queens commanded a 24-22 advantage down the stretch, but Doctor sparked a 4-0 run with a kill and an ace to help UNF secure the match.
