Men's Tennis Earns Comeback Victory Over UNC Wilmington

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After falling behind 3-1, North Florida Men's Tennis stormed back for a 4-3 win over UNC Wilmington at UNF Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon.

With the win, the Ospreys improved to 4-0 at home this season.

Graduate Breno Marques and graduate Andreas Scott picked up a 7-5 doubles win on court one, but UNC Wilmington claimed the doubles point with a win on court three and a tiebreaker victory on court two to take an early 1-0 lead.

Freshman Aron Major cruised to a dominant 6-2, 6-1 win on court six in singles play. With the win, Major improved to 4-0 this season in singles play.

UNC Wilmington would pick up a pair of wins on the first and third courts to take a commanding 3-1 lead.

The Ospreys fought back with Freshman Kyle Piqueras picking up a win on court four, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, and sophomore Youssef Labbene battling to a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(3) tiebreaker win to tie the match at 3-3.

After dropping his first set, sophomore Joao Portugal fought back to earn a 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-4 win on court five to clinch the match for North Florida. He improved to a team-best 7-1 on the season in singles play.

North Florida welcomes South Carolina State to UNF Tennis Complex on Sunday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m.
