
Four Ospreys Score In Double Figures, Men's Basketball Drops Road Battle At FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Four Ospreys scored in double figures, but North Florida Men's Basketball ultimately dropped a back-and-forth road battle at Florida Gulf Coast, 90-81, at Alico Arena on Wednesday night.Â
Sophomore guard Kent Jackson turned in a team-high 24 points in 35 minutes. He has scored 20 or more points in seven games this season.Â
Senior guard Kamrin Oriol added 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists in 38 minutes. The seven rebounds are the most in an ASUN game for Oriol and he has finished with 10 or more points in 25 of 26 games this season.Â
Graduate student guard/forward Dalton Gayman posted 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists on 6-12 from the field in 26 minutes. Redshirt sophomore guard/forward Mason Lee rounded out the four Ospreys in double figures with a near double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds in 30 minutes.Â
North Florida scored on the opening possession on a jumper from Jackson. Jackson added a three on the next possession for a 5-0 start and scored all five points for the Ospreys at the initial first-half media timeout.Â
Sophomore guard Dante Oliver knocked down a corner three and Lee added another three to secure a 13-10 lead for North Florida at the 13:45-minute mark of the first half. After each side traded leads throughout the initial action, Florida Gulf Coast went on a 12-2 run to take a 28-17 lead at the 7:43-minute mark of the first half.

North Florida closed the deficit to 40-33 with 1:19 minutes left before the halftime break on a second-chance finish from freshman guard/forward BJ Plummer. Florida Gulf Coast led 42-33 at the half.Â

Oriol located Lee on a fastbreak finish to cap off a stretch in which the Ospreys converted on three-straight possessions to force an Eagles' timeout and cut the deficit to 55-49 at the 13:40-minute mark of the second half. Oriol cut the margin to two scores at 69-63 with a three at the top of the arc right before the under-eight-minute media timeout in the second half.Â

Plummer found Gayman for a finish down low to make 71-65 with 6:15 minutes left in regulation. Oriol knocked down his fifth three of the game to cut the margin to 84-78 with 43 seconds left. The margin wouldn't get closer than two possessions before the game reached its eventual final.Â
