Men's Tennis Earns Hard Fought Victory Over Flagler, 4-3

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida Men's Tennis battled to a 4-3 home win against Flagler on Saturday afternoon.

The Flagler Men's Tennis program came was ranked third in the latest Division II ITA Tennis Rankings.

Sophomore Jean Deloziere and sophomore Jean Deloziere picked up a 6-1 win on court three to begin doubles action. Freshman Aron Major and graduate student Breno Marques would clinch the doubles point and give the Ospreys an early 1-0 advantage with a victory on court two, 7-5. For Major, it marked his first collegiate doubles win.

After falling behind early, sophomore Youssef Labbene and junior Enrique Pena battled back for a 7-6(2) tiebreaker win on court one to close out doubles play.

Major picked up the Ospreys' first singles victory, 6-3, 6-4, on court five to give the Ospreys a 2-1 lead. Flagler responded with a singles win on court one before Joao Portugal earned a win on court four, 6-1, 6-3, to put UNF back out front 3-2. With the victory, Portugal moved to 5-1 this season in singles play.

After dropping his first set, Labbene battled back to win his next two sets and clinch the match for the Ospreys with a 6-7(6), 6-4, 7-5 win.

North Florida will welcome The College of Charleston to the UNF Tennis Complex Saturday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m.
