Men's Tennis Splits Doubleheader, Dominates The Citadel To Begin Spring Season

COLUMBIA, S.C. – After dropping the first match of the day to No. 18 South Carolina, North Florida men's tennis responded with a dominant 6-1 win over The Citadel at the Carolina Indoor Facility on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore Jean Deloziere and graduate student Breno Marques picked up the Ospreys' first doubles win with a 6-0 sweep. Graduate student Andreas Scott and junior Benjamin Scott clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win.
For the Scott brothers, it marked the first collegiate dual doubles match the two have won together. It also marked the first doubles dual match win as an Osprey for Benjamin Scott.
Deloziere would pick up a 6-1, 6-2 win to begin singles play and give UNF a 2-0 lead. After earning the Ospreys' lone singles win against South Carolina 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 [6], sophomore Joao Portugal earned his second singles win of the day with a 6-2, 6-1 win against The Citadel.Â
Freshman Kyle Piqueras clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-3Â win, and freshman Gabriel Piqueras extended the lead with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph. For the twin brothers, it marked their first collegiate dual singles victories.
Benjamin Scott picked up his first singles dual match win as an Osprey with a 7-6 (3), 6-2 win for UNF's final singles win of the day.
North Florida travels to Boca Raton, Fla. to battle Florida Atlantic on Thursday, Jan. 15 at 4 p.m.
