
Baseball Falls In Extra-Inning Midweek At South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. – North Florida baseball fell to South Carolina, 3-2, in an extra-inning midweek battle at Founders Park on Tuesday night.Â

Redshirt senior right-hander Tommy Groom dealt an impressive start on the mound for North Florida. He pitched three scoreless innings with no hits and two strikeouts. Five other Ospreys pitched in relief and combined to allow only two runs over the final six innings before extras.Â

Senior Connor Moore finished 2-4 with an RBI on the night.Â

South Carolina opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the fifth inning.Â

Moore cut the deficit to 2-1 in the sixth inning with a single to left center that scored sophomore Mitchell Collins from second, who reached on an infield single and advanced on an errant throw. In the eighth inning, freshman Seth Alford tied the game for North Florida when he powered a sacrifice fly to center field.Â

Junior right-hander Kaden Humphrey shut the door on the Gamecocks in the eighth and ninth inning to push the game to extra innings.Â

South Carolina led off the bottom of the tenth inning with a double and a walk before another extra-base hit plated the deciding run.
