JACKSONVILLE - Robert Pedroza showed out during his season debut for outdoor season with a stellar 1500m mark to be recognized as ASUN Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
Pedroza had a sensational time at UCF's Black & Gold Invitational last weekend with a time of 3:42.32 in the 1500m race. He placed as the runner-up in the event over athletes from Kentucky, Yale, Maryland, Clemson and Holy Cross.
"Robert [Pedroza] had a great opener to kick off his senior campaign," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "He ran well during indoor season and we are planning some fast races for him. I'm happy to see the strong result."
The reigning school record-holder for the men's 1500m has now brought in his third career ASUN Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week award after reeling in two honors in the month of March during the 2023 season. He is also the first men's track athlete to be given the distinction since Macauley Franks in 2023.
The senior joins Bobby Harris and Nick Morken as the only Osprey men's athletes to be awarded three outdoor weekly honors.
Pedroza returns to running at the Florida Relays next weekend from Apr. 4-5 in Gainesville, Fla.
