
North Florida Defeats Palm Beach Atlantic In Home Opener, 70-67

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida Women's Basketball defeated Palm Beach Atlantic, 70-67, on its Education Day at UNF Arena on Wednesday.Â
With the win, North Florida moves to 1-1 on the season. North Florida also improves to 3-0 in home openers under Head Coach Erika Lambert.Â
Palm Beach Atlantic took a 19-9 lead after the first quarter, but North Florida quickly responded with an 11-0 run in a 3:06-minute stretch to start the second quarter and secure a 20-19 lead.Â
Junior guard Alonya Waldon posted 10 of her team-high 17 points in the first half to propel North Florida to a 33-31 lead at the halftime break.Â
Trailing 52-47 entering the fourth quarter, North Florida outscored Palm Beach Atlantic 23-15 behind 60.0 percent from the field in the final 10 minutes to pull away from its visitors.Â
Waldon, sophomore guard Jamisyn Stinson and guard/forward Karyzma Pierre each scored in double figures. Waldon filled the stat sheet with 17 points on 5-10 from the field and 7-9 from the free-throw line, in addition to seven assists, a team-high six rebounds and drew four charges down the stretch in 34 minutes. It marked her second-consecutive game and 13th career game with 10 or more points.Â
Stinson added 15 points on 3-7 from three and five rebounds in 29 minutes. It marked the 14th game of her career with double-digit points. Pierre finished with 10 points on 4-5 from the field, five rebounds and three assists in 29 minutes.Â
After missing the 2024-25 season due to injury, redshirt sophomore Alexa Washington made her return to the court with five points and connected on a late three to secure the lead for North Florida for the final time. Â
North Florida held a 38-26 advantage in paint points, 13-2 advantage in fast break points and a 19-8 advantage in bench points. It marked the second-consecutive game outscoring its opponents in bench points for North Florida.Â
Overall, 12 Ospreys logged minutes and 10 scored.
North Florida travels to New Orleans, La., to take on Tulane on Nov. 12 at 12 p.m. in Avron B. Fogelman Arena.Â
