
Women's Basketball Shows Fight, But Falls Close to Bellarmine

Stinson Led With 14 Points And Four Three-Pointers
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - North Florida women's basketball battled its way through a challenging road matchup that saw the Ospreys trail by just one possession in the fourth quarter, but fell in the game's final minutes in a 80-69 result against Bellarmine on Thursday evening.
The Ospreys came all the way back from a 10-0 deficit to lead by three points in the second quarter, but were outscored in the final two quarters by 13 points. Freshman guard Jamisyn Stinson led the way offensively with 14 points on 4-for-11 shooting from three-point range while snagging two rebounds and two steals. Freshman forward Jasmynne Gibson added 10 points, seven rebounds, and three steals on 4-for-9 shooting from the field.

First Half: Senior guard Kaila Rougier and junior guard Helena Rafnsdottir opened the scoring for the Ospreys with back-to-back layups that cut Bellarmine's lead to 10-4 just over four minutes in…UNF narrowly trailed 18-15 at the end of the first quarter behind a three-pointer by Rafnsdottir and a buzzer-beating layup from freshman forward Nicole Carreno…freshman guard Jamisyn Stinson made a three from the right wing amid a 13-2 run that gave UNF its first lead at 22-20 midway through the second…the Ospreys maintained their lead for the next three-plus minutes before heading into halftime tied at 37.
Second Half: The Knights ripped off a 9-0 run to open the third quarter but Carreno answered with a three-pointer that shrunk UNF's deficit to 46-40 at the 5:57 mark…from there, senior guard Jazmine Spencer made a three of her own that cut it to four, however, that was as close as North Florida would get in the period before trailing 59-50 entering the fourth…junior guard Sarah Taub made a layup that saw UNF trail by five midway through the fourth before Spencer made another three-pointer that cut Bellarmine's lead to just two points before BU held off UNF down the stretch.
