
Women's Basketball Falls to Eastern Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. – North Florida women's basketball fell to Eastern Kentucky, 78-44, inside Baptist Health Arena at Alumni Coliseum on Saturday.

Junior guard Helena Rafnsdottir finished with 10 points, her eighth game with 10 or more points this season, on 3-6 from the field and 4-4 from the line in 30 minutes. Senior guard Kaila Rougier added nine points on 4-8 from the field in 26 minutes.Â

FIRST HALF: Senior guard Kaila Rougier scored the first five points of the game for North Florida, which promoted a 5-1 lead through the initial minute of action. Eastern Kentucky took a 10-7 lead at the first quarter media timeout. Rougier continued her hot start with a pullup jumper to cut the deficit to 13-9 at the 2:41 mark of the first quarter. Freshman forward Jasmynne Gibson converted on an and-one finish to make it 18-14 with 1:12 minutes left before Eastern Kentucky scored on its final three possessions to take a 25-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. Junior forward Nia Brown turned in the first points of the second quarter on a turnaround jumper. Eastern Kentucky extended its lead to 43-21 at halftime.Â

SECOND HALF: Junior guard Sarah Taub turned in four of her six points in the third quarter. Eastern Kentucky secured a 63-31 lead at the end of the third quarter. North Florida went on an 8-0 run early in the fourth quarter and battled in a tightly contested 15-13 fourth quarter in which freshman guard Jamisyn Stinson added five points. Â
