Softball Wraps Up '24 Signing Class With Trio of Transfers

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida softball rounds out its 2024 signing class, as it announces three transfer newcomers with Lauren "LuLu" Brock, Lauren Bevis and Kalyn McCarthy joining the Osprey squad on Wednesday afternoon.

"On offense, I felt like we needed to become a little tougher to play against on that side. We led the ASUN in home runs a year ago, but our on base percentage wasn't where it needs to be leading into our power kids," said head coach Jeff Conrad. "Kalyn [McCarthy] is an engine of an offense and the two Lauren's [Brock & Bevis] as well are cut out of that same cloth. This should be a much more pressure-causing offense that can really compliment our power kids."

Attended UAB for three years, being named to the C-USA Commissioners Academic Medal in 2023.
Started all 25 games played with 14 hits, nine RBIs, 11 runs, two doubles and a triple in 2024.
Started and played in 54 games in the middle infield with 56 hits (.311 BA), 13 RBIs, 37 runs, five doubles and 11 stolen bases in 2023.
Started in 40 of 44 games played with 24 hits, 12 RBIs, 16 runs, two doubles in 2022 as a freshman.
Attended Marianna HS, where she played softball all four years.
2019 state runner-ups, as well as a three-time district champion.
Named second team all-state in 2019 and team captain her junior and senior seasons.
Named Marianna's 2021 Female Athlete of the Year.
Batted .451 in her career during high school with 69 stolen bases in 60 career games.
Also weightlifted and played volleyball.

Has one brother, Brady (18), who plays baseball at Chipola College.

Uncle, Carson Lassiter, also played basketball at Huntington College.

Plans to pursue her Master's of Education with a concentration in Athletic Administration.

Prior to UNF

Attended USF for three seasons and returns home to Jacksonville, Fla.
Batted .286 (2-for-7) in 26 games played with four runs, an RBI and a double in 2024.
Made 24 appearances with two starts, along with eight runs and a hit against Northern Illinois in 2023.
Appeared in 12 games as a freshman with a run and a hit recorded in 2022.
Also stole three bases in her collegiate career.
Attended Creekside HS in Saint Johns, Fla., where she played softball all four years.
FHSAA State 7A Championship Runner-Up in 2019.
Also district champion in 2021 and runner-up in 2018.
Named All-First Coast Honorable Mention team in 2019.
Was also All-Area Team in 2021.
Led the team in home runs in her junior season.
Hit .385 from the leadoff spot her last two years.
Graduated with Cum Laude honors.

Chose UNF because "it has a great physical therapy program. My older sister loves the environment within the campus and I wanted to be closer to home. Following the UNF softball program, I saw how much talent they have within their program."

Coach's Thoughts: "Lauren [Bevis] is a local kid, who also has a lot of game experience from USF. She has some versatility in the outfield and also checks that box of what we needed to add offensively."

Kalyn McCarthy

Previous School: Arizona State

Prior to UNF

Attended Arizona State over the past two seasons with three years of eligibility.
In 2023, she appeared in 23 games with four starts in the outfield.
Recorded two hits, an RBI and eight runs in her 15 at bats.
She also drew four walks and stole six bags in her freshman season.
Attended William Fremd HS, where she played softball all four years.
Only player from school to be named to Illinois Coaches Association First Team All-State in 2022.
All-time career leader in steals at Fremd HS with 142 total.
Daily Herald All-Area First Team and Mid-Suburban League All-Conference Team as a HS freshman.
Heart of America Fastpitch League's Player of the Month in 2021.
Played in the PGF All-American game in 2022.

Coach's Thoughts: "Kalyn [McCarthy] is someone we tried to get into on out of high school, but were late to the party. A true centerfielder, she also saw a lot of game action as a true freshman at Arizona State and is a strong recruit out of our midwestern pipeline, and in particular the greater Chicago-land area."
