JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida men's basketball brings in forward Liam Murphy as a graduate transfer from Columbia, as announced by head coach Matthew Driscoll and staff on Tuesday afternoon. The Ospreys' class continues to build with Murphy joining Josh Harris, Alex Vargo and Nestor Dyachok as newcomers.

UNF reels in Murphy as a graduate student with two years of eligibility remaining as a big man who shoots 34% from range. He averaged 10 PPG and 4 RPG through his first full two seasons at the collegiate level after not seeing any action last season due to injury.

Murphy had stellar performances during his freshman season with Columbia, dropping a career-high 26 points against CMSV during his fourth career appearance in 2021. He played all 40 minutes and notched a career-high 11 rebounds to go with 14 points for his first career double-double against Princeton the same season as well.

The Staten Island, N.Y., native is a 2020 graduate of St. Peter's Boys HS, where he was a two-time letter winner with the Eagles and was named to the all-state team twice. He was also the Jacques Award winner for top player on Staten Island, while also receiving CHSAA Staten Island Division Player of the Year 2020 and being a two-time selection to the CHSAA All-Division Team Staten Island in 2019 and 2020.

Murphy helped the Eagles to the Staten Island Basketball Championships three years in a row (2017-2020) and was the only player in the history of St. Peter's Boys HS to score 1,000 points in two years (46 games).

Coach Driscoll on Liam
"Liam [Murphy] exudes energy and effort in every aspect of his life. Liam truly loves trying every day to be the difference in someone's life during his daily walk. His passion and toughness, plus his appreciation for the game after being sidelined for over a year, will carry over to the court. Liam has what we say 'done it when the lights are on' averaging 12 PPG and 5 RPG in his first full season of college basketball, including 36% from three-point range. He competed in the Ivy League, which year-after-year is one of the most prestigious top-to-bottom college basketball conferences in America adding to his ability to raise our culture."
