Improved Last Season's Personal Best By 45 Seconds For 28:14:34 Mark at Portland Track Festival
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida fifth-year Aidan O'Gorman turned in a time of 28:14.34 in the 10,000m race at the Portland Track Festival this past weekend to qualify for the 2024 U.S. Track & Field Olympic Team Trials on Wednesday afternoon. His 10,000m time currently ranks 19th in the U.S., which puts him inside the top 24 qualifier spots for the Olympic Trials in late June.

After redshirting this past track & field season, O'Gorman improved his lifetime best mark by 45 seconds to place third overall in the Portland Track Festival. It well surpasses his program-record time at UNF from last season, which was 28:59.90 at the 2023 Raleigh Relays.
"Aidan [O'Gorman] has really made the most of this redshirt season and has continued to work hard and stay focused," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "He is doing an internship in Santa Fe, N.M., and since he is redshirting, he has to pay his own way and he has handled it like a champ. His wife, EJ [O'Gorman], has been instrumental in supporting him and essentially has been 'deputized' as an assistant coach."
Â
The fifth-year made the most of his redshirt season this spring continuing to focus on his training in the 10,000m event. He has competed in a few races this outdoor season as an unattached individual, including the 10,000m meet at the Stanford Invitational with a time of 28:35.53.
The New Smyrna Beach, Fla., native holds the program record for the outdoor 10,000m race at 28:59.90, as well as the school marks for the 3k and 5k for indoor and the 8k and 10k for cross country. He finished his 2023 outdoor track season as an All-American honorable mention selection in the 10,000m after qualifying for the NCAA Championships, followed by earning ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year and First Team All-Conference honors this past XC season.
"This is a huge accomplishment and it just shows what dedication and drive can lead you to as an athlete," continued Pigg. "It will be awesome to have him in the UNF jersey at the Olympic Trials and, of course, be back here next season to cap off his senior season."

The 10,000m final race for the 2024 U.S. Track & Field Olympic Team Trials takes place on the first day of competition on Friday, June 21, at 7:27 p.m. PT, at Hayward Field hosted by the University of Oregon.
