Four Ospreys Score Double Figures Against Bulldogs

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's basketball (3-8) handled business with a dominant, 73-57, win against UNC Asheville (1-9), on Saturday afternoon at the UNF Arena.

After a tightly-contested opening period, the Ospreys locked down on defense against the Bulldogs only allowing six points in the second quarter. UNF would go on to outscore UNC Asheville in both the third and fourth quarters to roll into a 16-point home win.

Kaila Rougier was the leader of a quartet of Ospreys that notched double figures scoring with 16 points to combine for 35 points over her last two appearances. The freshmen duo Nicole Carreno and Jamisyn Stinson combined for 23 points, along with senior Jazmine Spencer returning from injury to join Stinson with a trio of three-pointers.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

First Half: Jazmine Spencer started off the action with a catch-and-shoot three to take an early lead on the first possession...Helena Rafnsdottir joined Spencer for the next two buckets to add on points for the Ospreys...Jasmynne Gibson worked in the paint to find success with a score before the first media timeout...Kaila Rougier took home a steal-and-score opportunity to make it a one-point game after one...Jamisyn Stinson caught all net from deep to start the second, followed by another steal-and-score courtesy of Sarah Taub...Nicole Carreno saw an opportunity from beyond the arc, along with Rougier handling a few buckets of her own to force a Bulldogs' timeout...Stinson and Carreno added on points, as the freshman helped UNF to a double-digit lead at the break.

Second Half: After a slow start out of the break, Spencer helped the squad out of the slump with a three-pointer off a missed layup...Grace Hunter garnered her first points in the third period since coming back from injury for almost a month...the freshmen were able to connect with passes from Gibson and Carreno ending up in the hands of Stinson for her third three of the game...Rougier beat the game clock as time expired in the third period to expand the lead to 14 points...great ball movement up the court landed in the hands of Spencer for a knockdown corner three to add on to the lead...a pair of scores from Taub ended the game with the Ospreys victorious at home once again.

NOTES

Rougier led all Ospreys with 16 points for double figures in five of the last six games.
Rafnsdottir was heavy on the boards against Asheville with seven total for a season-high mark.
Carreno scored double digits for a third time this season, including back-to-back home games.
The freshmen trio combined for 29 total points scored against the Bulldogs.
Hunter returned from injury for the first time since FAU on Nov. 13.
