Ospreys Extend Home Unbeaten Run to Eight Matches
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's soccer (1-0-1) continued its unbeaten run at Hodges Stadium, playing to a 0-0 draw against East Carolina (0-1-1) Sunday, August 20.Â
Goalkeeper Sarah Barrentine saw out the full 90 minutes, recording a clean sheet and making one save while facing 12 shots. The Ospreys have not conceded a goal at Hodges Stadium since October 23, 2021 against Jacksonville.Â
Both teams battled heat and physical plan as UNF took on its first AAC foe since USF in 2021. All told, both teams took a combined 27 shots with either side unable to finish their chances in the end.Â
Inside the MatchÂ
First Half: East Carolina started the game with energy, creating a string of chances in the opening ten minutes … in the 14th minute, freshman Paige McSwigan found Brooklynn Fugel in the box who put up a shot just wide of the net … Siassi sent a free kick into the box in the 19th minute that was deflected into the path of ECU goalkeeper English who lofted it over the crossbar … both teams entered halftime scoreless with the Ospreys outshooting the Pirates, 7-4Â
Second Half: 15 minutes into the second half, Brenna Robinson connected on a free kick into the box finding the head of Liz Anne Fogarty, forcing a diving stop from English ... the intensity increased as the game wore on with each side creating eight chances in the second session … just moments later, the ball fell to Jones outside of the box who rattled a shot off the crossbar … solid link up play between Fugel and Allie Fekany saw the Ospreys come up just wide … both teams pushed for a winner until the final whistle ... Fekany nearly found an unabated Jersi Dadah in the 90th minute, but the cross sailed just high.
