Women’s Soccer Drops First Road Test of 2023 at Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. - Avery Raimondo connected with Kayla Bond for a beautiful header and goal in the 61st minute, but Georgia Southern's persistent attack was too much as the Ospreys (1-1-1) dropped the first road test of 2023, 4-1, in Statesboro Thursday, Aug. 24.Â

Inside the Match
First Half: Both teams had a shot apiece through the first ten minutes, but Zara Siassi's header attempt off the corner in the 12th minute was the best early chance … the shot was blocked at close range … Georgia Southern's Isabel Kopp hooked in a goal from the wing off her left foot in the 15th minute, making it 1-0 Eagles (2-1-0) … Georgia Southern's Carley Borgelt lunged into a perfectly placed goal in the upper 90 for a 2-0 lead in the 30th minute.
Second Half: Georgia Southern kept the pressure going by scoring in the 52nd minute … after evading a few strong chances, UNF got a counter going and scored in the 64th minute … Avery Raimondo put a cross on the button for Kayla Bond who finished inside the box … Jersi Dadah put up two shots and Liz Anne Fogarty struck one well, sailing just left of the mark over the next few minutes … Georgia Southern got that goal back with a well placed cross and one-timer tucked inside the left post … Rachel Fishkin tended the goal nicely over the remaining minutes as Georgia Southern held on.
