JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNF men's tennis (10-5, 3-1 ASUN) and long-time rival Florida Gulf Coast (8-8, 3-1 ASUN) squared off in a vintage battle Sunday, but the Ospreys came up just short of a victory against a tough FGCU team March 26.

The Ospreys began the match in a hard fought battle as Matt Carroll and Bruno Vietri secured a 6-4 victory on the second court. Shortly after, Andreas Scott and Breno Marques fell, 6-4, leaving the tiebreaker up to the remaining court. Jonas Hartenstein and Rodrigo Crespo clinched the doubles point for UNF in a 7-3 tiebreaker win.

The Ospreys had tough competition in singles play as three first sets went into tiebreakers. Crespo fell in two sets at the second position, giving FGCU a tie score, 1-1. Vietri came up short in the third slot to give the Eagles their first lead of the match. However, PJ Kotan was able to earn a two-set win on the fifth court to tie up the score, 2-2. In a long battle, Scott earned a point in three sets to give the Ospreys a 3-2 lead. Hartenstein fell in a strong matchup at the top position, as the match decision was up to one remaining court. Carroll nearly clawed his way out of an early hole but fell just short in the 6-4 third set to give the Eagles a 4-3 victory.

North Florida will head back on the road to Jacksonville State Friday, March 31 at 2 p.m. before facing North Alabama two days later.
