PREVIEW: Cross Country Gears Up for NCAA South Regionals

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -Â North Florida's cross country gears up for the NCAA South Regional meet on Friday, Nov. 10, at the Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla. The women's team will hit the course first at 8:30 a.m for the 6K, and the men will follow at 9:30 a.m. EST for the 10K.
The men's cross country team circumvented several teams in the ASUN Championships, marking a runner-up placement. Aidan O'Gorman set the pace leading the Ospreys in second overall and notching the race in 24:17.85. Robert Pedroza paced shortly behind, clinching a top-five performance. Both men earned First Team All-ASUN honors at the meet.
The women's cross country team secured a fourth-place finish in the conference championship meet. Smilla Kolbe led the way in her 5k debut with the Ospreys notching a top-20 rank. The Hanover, Germany, native punched the clock in at 17:42.04.
The North Florida men attained a top-eight performance in the 2022 NCAA South Regional meet. O'Gorman was the lead contender for the Ospreys, earning a top-20 rank. The New Smyrna Beach, Fla., native earned the top ranking five times last season. He overturned his lifetime mark in the 10k last season, clocking a time of 30:06.9.
The Ospreys on the women's side battled against contenders from Georgia, Miss State, UAB, FIU, and Memphis. Isa Leen took the lead, establishing a position inside the top 100. Emma Jane O'Gorman narrowly finished inside a similar bracket, attaining a 21:53.2 finish. EJ O'Gorman finished her season as a top-two runner for the Ospreys in all five meets last year.
The men's and women's races will include Alabama, Alcorn State, Auburn, Austin Peay, Belmont, East Tenn. Austin Peay, Bellarmine, Georgia Tech, and Georgia.
Last season, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Alabama clinched the top three ranks in the NCAA South Regional meet. Victor Kiprop took home gold for Alabama, stopping the clock at 29:21.20. The junior holds the 10,000-meter school record for Alabama and secured a 2023 Outdoor Second Team All-American position in the 10k.
