JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida men's soccer starts a four-game road slate when it faces off against FAU Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m.
WHAT TO KNOW
- Bendeguz Burka overtakes as the shot leader on the team with 10 total shots this season.
- Luto Tom is not far behind with nine shot attempts total with the next highest player only having six shots.
- Ale Rodriguez Lopez and Joaquin Acuna remain the shots on goal leaders with three SOGs each.
- Herbie Steigelman has been durable for the Ospreys this season continuing to play all 90 minutes in each game this season.
- UNF had their second-straight game with multiple shots on goal Saturday against Stetson.
- They also have now had double-digit shot totals in four of their six games as well.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Florida Atlantic enters the midweek competition with a 1-3-2 record with their only win coming against ASUN opponent, Stetson. Since that game, they have lost three consecutive games and then drew against USF this past Friday evening.
Entering his sixth season as the head coach, Joey Worthen is coming off a 9-7-3 record in fall 2021 with an appearance in the C-USA title game. The Owls have changed leagues before the start of their 2022 season, as they are now playing in the American Athletic Conference.
Victor Claudel is the player to watch out for on Tuesday evening after scoring three goals in the first two games for FAU. He also has three of the five goals total for the Owls this season and leads the team in shots with nine total.
FAU has two goalkeepers with significant playing time so far this year, but Neil Strauber has the edge with 19 saves in his four starts. Neither keeper has yet to post a shutout on the year, allowing at least one goal in each of their first six games.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Ospreys are 3-8 all-time against Florida Atlantic with an 0-4 record against the Owls on the road.
- This will be the fourth consecutive season facing off against FAU.
- UNF is 1-2 against the Owls in their past three matchups since 2019.
