
MEN'S SOCCER MATCH NOTES: VS GEORGIA SOUTHERN

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida men's soccer has a non-conference game slated against Georgia Southern for its first match at home in almost three weeks Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m.
After earning a 4-12-1 record last season, Georgia Southern starts its season winless through four games, including a loss to No. 12-ranked Charlotte at home. The Eagles will enter Tuesday night with their last win being against College of Charleston on Sept. 22, 2021.
The Eagles have had scoring struggles throughout the beginning of the season, as they have been shut out in three of their first four games. They have been outscored a combined 13-3, including their last loss being a 2-0 defeat to a familiar opponent in FGCU.
Georgia Southern did not have anyone selected to the Sun Belt's preseason poll and were selected to finish last in their conference. Samuel Odame and Mauro Gutierrez-Solis are the only two players from last season with multiple goals scored.
Through four games this season, Odame, as well as Zachary Martin, each have a goal scored to go along with a team goal scored. Segundo Navarro is far and way the leading shot leader with nine total and Dagoberto Romero has the most saves in three starts with nine total.
- The Ospreys are 4-9-1 all-time against Georgia Southern with a 2-5 record against them at home.
- This will be the 15th matchup against the Eagles in 18 seasons.
- UNF will be looking for its first win against Georgia Southern since a 2-1 win during the 2015 season.
- Will be the first time hosting the Eagles since Sept. 13, 2019.
North Florida stays at home for the weekend when it returns to conference play against Stetson on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m.
WHAT TO KNOW
- Bendeguz Burka has overtaken the top spot for total shots taken with six after taking three against Central Arkansas.
- Herbie Steigelman, as well as goalkeeper Padraic Gilley, remain as the only two players to play all 90 minutes in each of the first four games.
- 17 different players have started for the Ospreys, along with 22 players total to receive playing time so far this season.
- UNF has put together eight shots or more in all four games, but only had one game with more than one shot on goal.
- Zach Board will not be available for Tuesday's game after receiving a red card against UCA this past weekend.
