MSOC MATCH NOTES: UCF

8/28/2022 12:00:00 PM

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida men's soccer will be ready to rebound when it plays the first road match of the season against UCF on Monday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m.

WHAT TO KNOW

  • Preseason ASUN All-Conference selection LJ Estes was one of five Ospreys to play all 90 minutes in the season opener.
  • Goalkeeper Padraic Gilley looks to keep a strong presence in the goal, as he had four saves in the first half against Georgia State.
  • Six newcomers started against the Panthers, four transfers and two freshmen, along with five seniors.
  • The game in Orlando will be the start of a three-game road trip that includes games against UCF, FIU and Central Arkansas.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

UCF finished 2021 with a 9-8 record, including wins against No. 6 Tulsa and No. 24 SMU. The Knights have started this season with a 0-1 after suffering a loss to No. 15 Wake Forest.

Three players for UCF were named to the AAC All-Conference team, as the Knights were picked to finish second by the coaches in the conference. Lucca Douardo led the team last season with 13 total goals, while Anderson Rosa led the team in minutes and Gino Vivi played a balanced game with seven goals and six assists.

The Knights faced a similar fate to what UNF saw in their season-opener when they found themselves in a 0-0 deadlock with Wake Forest in the first half. They allowed a quick goal in the beginning of the second half and dropped their first match with a 1-0 score.
