What sport do you play?
  • Women's Golf

What year are you athletically?
  • Graduate/5th year

What are you studying?
  • Master's in educational leadership with focus in athletic administration

Where are you from?
  • Gainesville, Fla.

How did you first get involved with playing sports?
My parents required me to play a sport. I was a gymnast for five years and had to many injuries and had to choose another sport. I knew my dad played golf every now and then, so I asked him to take me to play. 

Was there any inspiration or role model that got you playing sports?
My dad was about the only person, but my grandma on his side played golf and would have been proud of me. She passed away when I was young. 

How long did you have the dream/goal to play college athletics?
Probably since the start of my career. I knew it was possible for me to get a scholarship out of golf and that was exciting for me. 

How has being a student-athlete impacted your college experience? How has it impacted your personal growth?
I have learned so much from being a student-athlete and it enhanced the opportunities I was given throughout my career. It was a lot of fun and it was an honor to represent my team and college at the Division I level. 

What does being a student-athlete do for life opportunities?
As a student-athlete I have learned many different skills that will help me in the workplace being on a team. Even if my sport was very individual but also a team aspect, I was able to learn valuable team skills and communication skills. I also was able to make those connections with people throughout my five years that can be resources in the future for me. 

What work still needs to be done to enhance opportunities for women in sports?
Recognition and being shown on the same level as men.

In your opinion, what needs to be improved to enhance the coverage of women in sports?
Social media posts, talking about things like this in stories, emails, etc. more air time or live updates, sharing records or highlights.

What are your goals after college?
I don't know what I want to do yet but I want to take my talents to a company/organization including leadership, while working with kids and making a difference in the world or in a kid's life. 

What advice would you give to girls in youth sports that are aspiring to be a college athlete/pro athlete or work in athletics?
Do not ever give up, keep going and enjoy your time in sports. This is a life-changing experience and you can have incredible opportunities through sports. Women can enhance the world of sports and help make a difference in the community.
