Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Begin Season Sept. 9
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida men's and women's cross country announce their 2022 schedules, with both programs running in three regular season meets in preparation for a pair of postseason races in Huntsville, Ala.Â
"The schedule is a good fit for our program," head coach Jeff Pigg said. "It should be fun and have us well prepared as we go into the postseason."
Home and Season Opener
The Ospreys open the season Sept. 9 with a home invitational at the Hayt Golf Center. It's the first time that North Florida has hosted a meet since September of 2019. North Florida men's cross country topped the Florida Gators in that race as UNF hosted a dual with UF.Â
UNF Returns to Mizzou
For the third time in four seasons, North Florida heads to the "Show Me State" to run at Missouri. UNF has competed at a meet hosted by the Tigers in 2019 and 2021.Â
Mia McLain paced the Ospreys as UNF finished ahead of programs such as Northern Iowa, Saint Louis and Creighton at the Gans Creek Classic Oct. 1 of last year.Â
The men's cross country program made its mark at Missouri last year, finishing first after defeating programs such as Missouri, Iowa and Texas A&M. Nathan Jubran ran the fastest 8K time in program history during that meet, finishing in 23:54.7.
Regular Season Finale
The Ospreys conclude the regular season at the High Point Invitational Oct. 14, marking the first time the Ospreys head to High Point for a meet. North Florida's last trip to North Carolina was September of 2013.Â
ASUN Conference Championship
UNF returns to the site of the 2021 NCAA Regionals for the 2022 ASUN Championship when the Ospreys go to Huntsville, Ala. Oct. 29.Â
Men's cross country is coming off back-to-back ASUN titles after winning last year's competition in Orlando and the previous year's competition in Macon, Ga. The women's squad posted a strong third place mark in the spring of 2021 season.Â
NCAA Regionals
Just under two weeks later, competition returns to Huntsville, Ala. for the NCAA Regionals. Huntsville was the site for last year's regional championship as UNF men's cross country finished fifth and the women's side took a top-20 mark.
Coach Pigg on the Schedule
"We are looking forward to once again be racing here at home. The Missouri trip is a great opportunity to face out-of-region competition and get on one of the best courses in the country, as Mizzou will host the NCAAs in 2024. High Point is the perfect meet for this time of year [in October]. We once again see teams we don't regularly race against in a competitive environment."
