Hard-Throwing Righty Gets Called Up By Toronto
TORONTO - Former Osprey pitcher Bryan Baker was called up from Triple A to the Toronto Blue Jays as announced by the Major League Baseball organization Wednesday, September 1.
Baker is the first UNF baseball player to get a big league call-up in UNF's Division I era, and first since Mike Wood did so August 21, 2003 with the Oakland A's.
An Osprey from 2014-16, Baker is the seventh former Osprey to make it to the major league level and the sixth hurler in program history.Â
The right-handed pitcher went 14-10 with a 3.67 ERA, 144 strikeouts and 186.1 innings pitched at UNF.Â
Since entering the minors in 2016, Baker is 22-16 with a 3.24 ERA, 23 saves, 241.2 innings pitched and 168 appearances.Â
At the Triple A level he's been stellar, posting a 5-2 record, 2.25 ERA, 56 innings, 71 strikeouts and 32 walks.
