KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Senior North Florida basketball standouts Ivan Gandia-Rosa and Garrett Sams were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) 2019-20 NABC Division I All-District 3 team as selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC in NCAA Division I.
Gandia-Rosa and Sams were both tabbed as second-team honorees. The duo becomes the fourth and fifth players in program history to earn the accolade and this is just the second season for UNF to have multiple selections.
"Ivan Gandia-Rosa and Garrett Sams have elevated not only themselves, but also our men's basketball program by earning an honor like this," said North Florida head coach Matthew Driscoll. "This honor truly reflects their talent and work ethic propelling them to a national stage. Ivan and Garrett set many career records along with finishing their careers ranked among the Top 10 in many of the main statistical categories. However, because of their servant's mentality, they would say hanging another championship banner would be their greatest career accomplishment. We are excited and looking forward to both of them moving into their professional playing careers. That opportunity will be a fulfillment of the dreams and goals they set as young adults, again demonstrating one of our core program beliefs that you truly do reap what you sow."
Gandia-Rosa, who garnered All-ASUN first-team honors, led the ASUN in assists and became the first player in conference history to top the league in assists for three consecutive seasons. He is UNF's all-time career assist leader and is also a member of the 1,000 Point Club. Gandia-Rosa averaged 13.8 points per game and 6.4 assists per game while connecting on 77 three-pointers.
An All-ASUN first-team selection, Sams was second on the team in scoring at 14.8 points per game and was listed among the league's top three-point shooters having made 73 for the year at a 39.2 percent clip. Twice named the ASUN Player of the Week this season, Sams climbed to third all-time in scoring at North Florida, eclipsing the 1,500 point mark.
