Comeback Falls Short at FAU
11/30/2020 8:41:00 PM | Women's Basketball
BOCA RATON, Fla. - A career-high 28 points from senior Rhetta Moore and outscoring FAU (1-0) in the final quarter was not enough as North Florida (0-3) women's basketball dropped a 93-81 decision at FAU Arena Monday evening.
North Florida pulled to within six down the stretch in the fourth quarter, 79-73 using a 26-8 run that saw Bond and Moore combine for 18 points. It was not enough though as FAU used a 10-0 run in the final minute and a half of the game to secure the win.
"Until we figure out our rebounding, we are going to struggle to get stops on the defensive end. I loved our fourth quarter effort and we learned a little bit more about who we are and how we have to play to be successful. We just have to continue to grow and get better." - head coach Darrick Gibbs

INSIDE THE GAME
- The teams kept each other close in the opening frame before FAU had a seven point lead on three straight free throws. Erin Jones and Moore then hit back-to-back threes to trail just 24-20 after one.
- FAU took over in the second quarter as the Ospreys struggled to find the basket going just 2-for-10 from the field. The home team took its biggest lead, 40-27, before Moore closed out the frame with a triple to make it 40-30 heading into the half.
- In the third, FAU outscored the visitors 27-17 in the third frame and quickly ballooned its lead to 71-47 by 8:08 in the fourth.
- North Florida then used a 26-8 stretch over five minutes to close within 79-73, but it was not enough to make up the difference. The Ospreys went 1-for-5 over the final minutes, while the Owls went 4-for-6 from the floor and sunk six free throws to grab the win.
Osprey Fast Breaks
- Moore's 28Â points bests her previous career high of 19 set against Warner in November 2019. She was just one shy of her career high in rebounds as well. Her six three-pointers match Mackins' outing at NC State to open the season and sit in a tie for third for most threes in a game.
- FAU held a 53-40 edge off the glass and scored 18 second-chance points to the Ospreys' four.Â
- Bond is still in search of the UNF career block record as she is two swats away from taking over the top spot.Â
- North Florida struggled from the line, hitting 19-of-31, while FAU went 18-for-24. It was the most free throws taken for UNF since January 2020 at Kennesaw State (30).
