Setting the Table
What: UNF at Lipscomb
Where: Dugan Field | Nashville, Tenn.
When: May 3-5
Against The Opponent
• UNF leads the all-time series 28-16.
• The Ospreys are 12-7 in road contests against the Bisons.
• North Florida hasn't lost a series to Lipscomb since 2009.
• UNF defeated the Bisons three times last season, taking two of three in a regular season series and a 7-6 decision in the ASUN Championship.
• The Ospreys took two of three in their last series at Dugan Field.
North Florida (26-18, 8-6 ASUN)
• UNF is coming off its third extra-inning affair of the season, a 9-7 loss in 11-innings to UCF Tuesday night.
• It was UNF's 18th game with at least 10 hits.
• The Navy and Gray are third in the ASUN at 8-6, trailing just Liberty and FGCU with nine conference games remaining this season.
• UNF pitchers have been stingy in allowing walks. The Osprey arms have permitted 154 free passes, the fewest of any staff in the conference. Conversely, UNF has fanned 333 batters, good for a 2.16/1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
•
Jay Prather leads the ASUN in batting average (.362) and hits (64). He's also second in runs (40).
• UNF has played merely five games outside the state of Florida this season, playing 10 true road games and three neutral contests at the Cox Diamond Invitational in
Pensacola.
Last Time Out
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNF's potent-first inning bats put the Ospreys (26-18) ahead, 4-0, but UCF (27-18) slowly crept back in the game and eventually won, 9-7, via a four-run 11th inning Tuesday, April 30 from Harmon Stadium.
Berry Blast
Chris Berry has been slotted in seven different positions in the batting order this season, appearing 15 times at the top of the order. The leadoff spot has boded well for Berry. He's hitting .353 (18-for-51) with three doubles, two home runs, 16 walks and a .507 on-base percentage.
The senior third baseman became UNF's all-time leader in walks for the program's DI years April 20 at North Alabama. Berry has 120 walks over his years in Jacksonville. He has 33 walks this season, a season high for his career. His on-base percentage sits at .403 his career and is .440 this season, a career-best mark.
Annnd They're Off!
The Ospreys have scored 20.9 percent of their runs in the first inning this year (53 of 253 total runs). To put it in perspective, UNF scored 35 runs in the first inning across 56 games last season. The next highest run total for any inning is UNF's 33-fifth inning runs.
North Florida has only allowed 24 runs in the first frame and it is 16-8 when scoring in the opening frame. UNF is 21-7 when scoring first and 5-11 when the opponent does so first.
If the early lead can be carried late, UNF has had success. The Ospreys are 23-4 when leading after six innings, 21-3 when leading after seven and 23-2 when ahead through eight.
King K
Redshirt-senior righty
Brad Deppermann is having his best season as an Osprey through 11 starts. Deppermann became UNF's all-time leader in strikeouts Friday, April 27 against FAMU. The Palm Harbor, Fla., native passed
Kyle Westwood (2010-13) who held the previous DI record at 209 strikeouts.
Deppermann has fanned 82 batters this season, good for second in the ASUN in punchouts and tied-for-35th in the nation. He's only allowed 18 walks while holding batters to a .230 average through 68.1 innings of work.
He's 5-2 this year with a 2.63 ERA after spinning 10 consecutive starts of at least 5.0 innings. After fanning three against Missouri opening day February 15, Deppermann has struck out at least six batters in every start including a career-high 11 against NJIT April 12.
