Against The Opponent
  • This is the first meeting between UNF and UNA.
  • The Ospreys have yet to face a school from Alabama this season

North Florida (22-16, 7-5 ASUN)
  • North Florida is riding a season-long five-game winning streak into play.
  • The Ospreys have only played three games outside the state of Florida to this point.
  • UNF has played 38 games, nine more than midway through the regular season and tied for the most games played by an ASUN team this season.
  • North Florida is third in the ASUN, possessing the tiebreaker with Jacksonville who is also 7-5.
  • The Ospreys have 12 more conference games on their slate, nine of which are on the road.
  • UNF is 3-5 on the road this season.

Last Time Out
TAMPA, Fla. - Freshman lefty Ryan Jean came into the night having spun 8.0 innings all season, and on Tuesday evening alone he nearly matched that total. Jean came on in the third inning and proceeded to spin 6.0 scoreless innings in front of Eddie Miller's sixth save of the 2019 as the Ospreys surmounted a 3-2 deficit in a 5-3 triumph at USF (15-20) Tuesday, April 16.

It was the longest outing on the season for any UNF (22-16) freshman, pushing UNF to its 10th win on the year against in-state foes. UNF (21-16) notched a new season-long winning streak, picking up its fifth straight.

Win Number 50
Head coach Tim Parenton picked up his 50th win as the Ospreys' head coach last night. Additionally, UNF is four ASUN wins shy of notching 200 wins against conference opponents since becoming affiliated with the ASUN.

1.9 Miles
Over his career at UNF, senior Chris Berry has done his fair share of walking. The Seminole, Fla., native has walked 112 times, good for 1.9 miles of distance between home plate and first base. The lefty hitter is one free pass shy of tying the UNF Division I record for base on balls, set by T.J. Thompson. He's walked at least 25 times every season and has posted seven multi-walk contests this season. Twice he has walked three times in one game, doing so against Missouri February 16 and against Columbia March 16.

To boot, Berry is on his hottest stretch with the bat right now. The third baseman is riding a six-game hitting streak in which he is hitting .478 (11-for-23) with eight runs, three doubles and four walks. Four of the six contests have been multi-hit affairs.

High Five!
The Ospreys are doing it with the bat and on the mound during their five-game winning streak. During this stretch UNF has scored 33 runs, clubbed 13 doubles, 30 RBI and swiped eight bases in eight attempts. The UNF bats are slashing .318/.397/.412, striking out at a clip of just 8.8 percent of total at-bats.

Pitchers are holding opponents to a .268 on-base percentage, permitting only three extra-base hits over the last five. Eight arms have combined to fan 31 while walking just 10, contributing to their anemic 1.40 ERA. This stretch saw Nick Marchese's first complete game, a career-high 11 strikeouts for Deppermann, Ryan Jean's first victory as an Osprey and the longest outing for a UNF freshman this season.

The Early Bird Gets the Run
So long with the thought that a batter needs to see a pitcher for one go around to get adjusted. The Ospreys are averaging 1.18 runs each first inning this season, scoring 45 times while holding opponents to 24 runs in the first frame. UNF has already scored 10 more runs than it did all of last year in the opening session. The Ospreys are 14-7 when scoring in the first, 3-8 when an opponent scores in the first and 17-6 when scoring first. During the five-game winning streak UNF has outscored opponents, 6-0, in the first.

Conversely, UNA has stubbed its toe in the first inning this year. The Lions have surrendered 35 runs in the first frame, scoring a team-low eight times.

Weekly Winning
Three UNF pitchers have received ASUN Pitcher of the Week honors and two position players have garnered the player of the week honor, giving UNF a conference-best five weekly honorees this season. Brad Deppermann is the most recent honoree, receiving ASUN Pitcher of the Week honors for his 11-strikeout night April 12 against NJIT.

Honorees
February 18 - RHP Max McKinley
February 25 - CF Tanner Murphy
March 4 - 2B Jay Prather
March 18 - RHP Nick Marchese
April 15 - RHP Brad Deppermann

Another Milestone
Redshirt-senior Brad Deppermann became the sixth UNF pitcher in the program's Division I history to eclipse 200 innings pitched for his career. He's just under 27 innings from setting the new UNF Division I record for innings pitched. He fanned a career-high 11 batters Friday against NJIT, giving him 197 for his career. He needs 13 more punchouts to set the UNF DI record.

Pesky Prather
Senior Jay Prather is leading the ASUN in hitting 38 games into the season, batting a scorching .384. He is currently ranked 41st in the nation in hitting. Compared to his junior season Prather is hitting .98 points higher, has seven more runs, one more hit, two more walks and .122 more points on his on-base percentage.

  • The Lions like to steal, having swiped 47 bags for the second-highest stolen base tally on the year.
