Last Time Out
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville held a 3-2 lead in the fourth, but junior hurler
Brandon Reitz settled in to retire 10 straight and North Florida (18-16, 4-5 ASUN) bats erupted for three consecutive frames with a crooked number as the Ospreys downed JU (20-12, 6-3 ASUN) in the rubber match, 11-3, Sunday, April 7, at Harmon Stadium.
Going for a Stroll
North Florida has walked 163 times this season, good for the second-most free passes in the league to only Liberty (177). UNF has two players with more than 20 walks this season, the only team other than Liberty with two players in the top 10 throughout the ASUN in that category.
Chris Berry's 23 walks this season has him at 110 base on balls, just four shy of setting the new UNF Division I record for walks.
Wes Weeks is tied with his teammate in walks, good for fourth in the league. UNF has walked 97 times during its 18 wins this season, sporting a .419 on-base percentage in such contests.
And Counting
Chris Berry isn't the only UNF player to be nearing a UNF Division I record. Right-handed starting pitcher
Brad Deppermann is at 199.1 innings pitched, good for sixth all-time in UNF Division I history and only 34.2 innings behind all-time leader,
Kyle Westwood. Westwood also holds the other record that Deppermann is chasing, the career strikeouts tally. Deppermann has 186 strikeouts, fourth all-time and 23 behind Westwood.
Tyler Marincov (2011-13) put up 35 stolen bases in his time at UNF. Junior
Tanner Murphy is at 28, needing only eight more to break Marincov's record. Murphy is tied with Donnie Dewees for fourth all-time.
Prather Preying On Pitching
Senior
Jay Prather started off the season scorching hot, and since then he hasn't stopped. The second baseman is slashing .381/.493/.462, leading the conference in batting average and hits (51). He also ranks second in the league in runs (32), third in at-bats (134), and fourth in on-base percentage. The numbers he put up as a junior have skyrocketed. Prather is only six hits shy of his total from last year, one homer short and 11 RBI behind. He already has four more runs, three more doubles, one more walk and has committed 13 fewer errors. Prather was recognized as the ASUN Player of the Week March 4 and the ASUN College Madness Player of the Week the following day.
