Harmon Stadium to Host Western Michigan for Three-Game Series

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Western Michigan Broncos come to Jacksonville for a quick three-game set beginning Friday, March 8. One game will be played Friday night while doubleheader will conclude the weekend Saturday.

Last Time Out
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - UNF scored three runs in the first and the Osprey arms fanned a UNF-Division I Record 17 batters, but No. 7/11 FSU (11-0) crept back in the game and eventually walked off with a win in the ninth at Florida State Wednesday, March 6.

Doing it With the Strikeout
The Ospreys' had a remarkable night on the mound against Florida State. The first 11 Seminoles retired were all put down by strikeout. Seven UNF pitchers combined to fan 17, with six coming from senior Trace Norkus in just 2.0 innings of work. The 17 K's broke a UNF - Division I record set March 4, 2016 against Pennsylvania. The UNF arms were bolstered by current minor leaguer, Bryan Baker, and his 11 strikeouts as they finished the night with 16.

Three in a Row
The Ospreys are racking up ASUN weekly laurels this season. Through three weeks UNF has garnered three such awards. Righty Max McKinley earned pitcher of the week honors (Feb. 18), center fielder Tanner Murphy earned player of the week honors (Feb. 25) and second baseman Jay Prather was tabbed with the same award Monday.

The Southpaw
Redshirt-junior Eddie Miller hasn't allowed a run through 12.1 innings of work to start the season. In six appearances the Ocala, Fla., native has garnered three saves, allowing only three hits and two walks while striking out 14. Miller didn't permit an earned run in his loss at Florida State.

Starting Off Hot
Jay Prather's ASUN Player of the Week recognition is well deserved. The senior is leading the team in hits (22), doubles (six), total bases (34), slugging (.630), on-base percentage (.500) and batting average (.407). He is tied for the team lead in runs (12) and home runs (2).

He was also named by College Sports Madness as the player of the week for the ASUN Conference March 4.

Western Michigan
  • The Broncos are 4-8 although they are coming off a 3-0 stay at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte.
  • WMU defeated St. Bonaventure, Villanova and Georgetown, scoring a combined 41 runs during those wins.
  • Western Michigan was swept by USF in a three-game set. It split two games with Lipscomb.
  • Infielder Logan Hudson is having quite a season so far. Hudson is hitting .440 with 17 RBI, two homers and three doubles.
  • Outfielder and righty hurler Blake Dunn does a little bit of everything for WMU. He is hitting .415 with two home runs, 11 RBI and seven stolen bases. He's made one appearance, picking up a loss.
  • Jack Szott leads WMU in innings pitched (17.1) and strikeouts (12). He is 1-0  in three appearances.
