STARTING BLOCK
The North Florida track distance runners got things started at the prestigious Pepsi Florida Relays on Thursday night led by junior Noah Perkins record-setting performance in the 5000m.
Â
AROUND THE TRACK
- In the men's 5000m, Noah Perkins claimed the event title after blazing to a UNF school record time of 14:02, bettering the previous program best by 10 seconds (1988 - Tony Ryan) | Time was also a 17-second PR improvement for Perkins
- Freshman Nathan Jubran made his collegiate debut in the event, posting a time of 14:33
- On the women's side, freshman Camryn Cooney clocked a time of 17:27 in her collegiate debut for the distance
COACH PIGG SAYS:
"Noah ran a great race tonight. He stayed patient early having confidence in his ability to close well.  He handled the level of competition well.  He is well prepared and a fierce competitor so he was able to take advantage of the opportunity he had tonight here at the Florida Relays. His 14:02 is a very good time. It broke the UNF record held by Bolles Coach and close friend of the program Tony Ryan. This time wil also most certainly be an NCAA East Region qualifier. Nathan Jubran had a big night as well. He ran 14:34 which is a very good mark for a freshman. I know he has more as he is just getting his training back up to a good level after being slowed in January. Camryn Cooney ran a nice PR beating her 3rd place Indoor ASUN time by eight seconds. She looked very strong and is learning how to run the 5000m distance."Â
UP NEXT:
North Florida will have several more athletes participate at the Florida Relays on Friday including competitors in the 400m Hurdles, 800m, 1500m, 3000m Steeplechase and the High Jump.
