Setting the Table
What: UNF at Liberty
Where: Lynchburg, Va.
When: Friday, March 29 - Sunday, March 31
Against The Opponent
- UNF and Liberty have met six times, with each team taking three contests.
- Their last meeting was in UNF's season opener in 2014. The Ospreys bested the Flames in that contest at Harmon Stadium, 11-4.
- The two teams have never met as ASUN foes, nor have they met in Lynchburg.
North Florida (16-11)
- UNF fell to 7-3 on the season against in-state foes with a 5-0 loss to UCF in Orlando Wednesday night.
- The Ospreys have defeated FAU (twice), No. 3 Florida, USF, FGCU (twice) and Bethune-Cookman. UNF is 13-7 at home, 1-2 at neutral sites and 2-1 on the road. UNF has fallen to No. 7/11 Florida State, FGCU and UCF.
Last Time Out
ORLANDO, Fla. - UCF (16-9) got out to an early lead and it clung to it, shutting out the Ospreys, 5-0, in a midweek contest at a misty John Euliano Park Wednesday, March 27.
In Series Openers
UNF is 4-2 in series openers this season. The Ospreys have taken game one against Missouri, Fordham, FAU and FGCU. North Florida has dropped the first edition of the series against Columbia and Western Michigan.
Pesky Prather
Jay Prather extended his hitting streak to eight games with a base knock in the eighth last night. The senior is leading the team in hitting and is fourth in the conference with a .402 batting average. The second baseman started the season off with an 18-game reached base streak.
First Take
UNF loves swinging the bats in the first inning. The Ospreys have scored 33 first inning runs, more than any other run total in an individual inning. The Ospreys are 10-4 when scoring in the first inning and 12-4 when scoring first. More anomalous is that the Ospreys scored 35 first inning runs all of last season.
All Good Things Must End
Redshirt-junior
Eddie Miller spun 20 innings before allowing an earned run. The lefty's streak ended with a two-run home run by Elijah Eusebio in the top of the seventh Sunday. Miller's ERA is still an anemic 0.44. He's fanned 24, allowed only six walks and garnered a team-high five saves. With one more save he will have passed the team high from last season.
Climbing to the Top
UNF has a trio of players eyeing school records for the university's Division I days. Senior
Chris Berry has 103 walks, good for second. He needs 11 more free passes to become all-time leader. Junior
Tanner Murphy has swiped eight bags this year, making him nine steals shy of the record. Redshirt-senior
Brad Deppermann has fanned 172, placing him fourth all-time. He needs 38 more punchouts to tally the record.
Lefty Lumber
UNF's top three-run batting averages are coming from left-handed bats (Hurwitz, Prather and Clark).
Liberty
- Liberty is 18-6 and 2-1 in the ASUN
- The Flames are hot at home, going 14-2 in Lynchburg. They've only played eight games on the road, going 4-4.
- The Flames have a number of impressive wins, including victories against Virginia Tech (two), Virginia, South Carolina, UNC and Wake Forest. Liberty fell to Tennessee, 7-1.
- It'll be a battle of patient hitters this weekend. UNF leads the conference in walks (135), while Liberty is second by a difference of only one free pass.
- Fifth innings have fared well for the Flames. LU has scored 35 runs in the 5th while allowing only six. Liberty's next highest run total for any inning is 21.
- The Flames are only hitting .248 as a team but eight different players have at least 10 RBI and opponents are hitting only .217.
- Evan Brabrand leads the ASUN in saves (seven).
- Andrew McInvale is 5-0 with a 2.37 ERA this season.
