Setting the Table
What: UNF at UCF
Where: Orlando, Fla. | John Euliano Park
When: Wednesday, March 27 at 6 p.m.

Against The Opponent
  • UNF leads the all-time series, 12-9
  • The two teams last met in 2017, with the Ospreys winning 2-1 at Harmon Stadium.
  • Their first meeting was in 1988.
  • UNF possesses an 8-4 advantage in games played in Orlando.
  • UCF won the last meeting in Orlando, 3-2, February 21, 2017

North Florida (16-10)
  • UNF improved to 7-2 against in-state foes after taking two of three from FGCU in Jacksonville last weekend.
  • The Ospreys have defeated FAU (twice), No. 3 Florida, USF, FGCU (twice) and Bethune-Cookman. UNF is 13-7 at home, 1-2 at neutral sites and 2-1 on the road.

First Take
UNF loves swinging the bats in the first inning. The Ospreys have scored 33 first inning runs, more than any other run total in an individual inning. The Ospreys are 10-4 when scoring in the first inning and 12-4 when scoring first. More anomalous is that the Ospreys scored 35 first inning runs all of last season.

Mashing Marabell
Blake Marabell was hitting everything Sunday. The junior left fielder went 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, two doubles, a home run and a single. Marabell didn't leave any on base and hit the eventual game-winning two-RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning. Marabell also made a stellar play in left, robbing Kohl Gilmore of extra bases after making a catch before crashing into the wall.

Shining Against the Sunshine State
UNF has yet to play a game outside of the Sunshine State. The Ospreys have also played nine contests against six in-state foes. The Ospreys took both game against FAU, topped No. 3/5 Florida, fell in the ninth to No. 7/11 FSU, nabbed a game against Bethune-Cookman, downed USF and took two of three against FGCU. North Florida will play 14 more games against teams from Florida.

All Good Things Must End
Redshirt-junior Eddie Miller spun 20 innings before allowing an earned run. The lefty's streak ended with a two-run home run by Elijah Eusebio in the top of the seventh Sunday. Miller's ERA is still an anemic 0.44. He's fanned 24, allowed only six walks and garnered a team-high five saves. With one more save he will have passed the team high from last season.

Climbing to the Top
UNF has a trio of players eyeing school records for the university's Division I days. Senior Chris Berry has 103 walks, good for second. He needs 11 more free passes to become all-time leader. Junior Tanner Murphy has swiped eight bags this year, making him nine steals shy of the record. Redshirt-senior Brad Deppermann has fanned 172, placing him fourth all-time. He needs 38 more punchouts to tally the record.

Lefty Lumber
UNF's top three-run batting averages are coming from left-handed bats (Hurwitz, Prather and Clark).

UCF
  • UCF is 15-9 and 0-3 in the American Athletic Conference after suffering a three-game sweep at the hands of No. 14 ECU in Greenville, N.C., this past weekend.
  • The Knights took two of three from Jacksonville to open the season.
  • Their most recent win was a 9-7 triumph against Florida State in Tallahassee, Tuesday, March 19.
  • Central Florida is 14th in the nation with 10.5 strikeouts per nine innings.
  • Entering the year the Knights have 18 players in the pros.
  • Tyler Osik paces the Knights with a .385 batting average. He's homered four times, stole seven bases, and crossed home 24 times.
  • Ray Alejo and Dallas Beaver have both homered five times.
