Baseball Hosts FGCU to Open ASUN Play

Ospreys, Eagles Play Three-Game Weekend Series

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - ASUN play around the conference commences this weekend. For UNF it begins with in-state foe, FGCU, Friday, March 22, through Sunday, March 24, at Harmon Stadium.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida drew nine walks, USF uncorked four wild pitches and a quartet of Osprey arms fanned 10 as UNF (14-9) dispatched the visiting Bulls, 7-2, Tuesday night from Harmon Stadium.

Wasting No Time
  • UNF has jumped out ahead of its opponents often this season. The Ospreys have scored 28 runs in the first inning alone, the most run production of any inning this season. UNF is 8-4 when scoring in the opening frame and 10-4 when scoring first. Conversely, UNF has allowed 13 runs in the ninth inning, while scoring only four, a testament to UNF's 13-1 record when leading after eight innings.

Patience is a Virtue
  • Senior Chris Berry is one of the most disciplined hitters to wear a UNF jersey according to his career-stat line. After working two more free passes Tuesday, Berry has 102 career walks, good for fourth all-time and second in UNF Division - I history. Berry has drawn seven walks in the last three games and has had five multi-walk games this season.

  • Redshirt-junior Eddie Miller is on a roll to start 2019. The southpaw is tied for the league lead with five saves, averaging a save every other appearance he makes. Through 11 outings and 18.2 innings he still hasn't allowed an earned run, holding batters to an anemic .143 average. He's only permitted one extra-base hit, striking out 22 to only five walks.

  • In five weeks of play UNF has garnered at least one ASUN weekly laurel in all but one of those weeks. Twice it has had a position player earn ASUN Player of the Week laurels, and twice a pitcher has received the accolade.
