Ospreys Square Off With USF Tuesday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNF posted consecutive four-run innings and Nick Marchese dealt 5.1 innings of one-run middle relief as the Ospreys (13-9) took care of Columbia, 11-4, on a damp Sunday at Harmon Stadium.

Four-for-Five
In five weeks of play UNF has garnered at least one ASUN weekly laurel in all but one of those weeks. Twice it has had a position player earn ASUN Player of the Week laurels, and twice a pitcher has received the accolade.

Clubbin' Catchers
The Ospreys have had juniors Austin Hurwitz and Tanner Clark split time behind the plate this season. Each has started 11 games and both players have provided some big offense for the Ospreys. Between the two of them they are hitting .400 (30-for-75) with 18 RBI, 11 BB and one home run.

Prather's Production
Senior second baseman Jay Prather had his 18-game reached base safely streak snapped Friday against Columbia. The Jacksonville, Fla., native is hitting .384 with seven doubles, two home runs, 18 RBI and a team best 21 runs. His glove has been reliable as well, converting all 91 of his chances. He currently ranks first in the ASUN in hits (33) and 11th in the nation in the same category.

Redshirt-junior Eddie Miller is on a roll to start 2019. The southpaw is tied for the league lead with five saves, averaging a save every other appearance he makes. Through 10 outings and 17.2 innings he still hasn't allowed an earned run, holding batters to an anemic .136 average. He's only permitted one extra-base hit, striking out 21 to only four walks.

USF
  • The Bulls are 11-7 this season, having played four games against Power Five programs and another four contests against ASUN teams.
  • USF topped No. 5 Florida a day before the Ospreys had their own win against the Gators.
  • South Florida swept a three-game series from Western Michigan, dropped two of three from Liberty and dropped an 8-7 contest to Jacksonville.
  • The Bulls are hitting only .256 as a team but they've had no problem with the long ball, hitting 21 home runs. Joe Genord leads the team with five long balls, hitting a team-best .359.
  • USF's staff has posted a 3.71 ERA, fanning 157 while allowing 76 walks. USF will start Dylan Burns. He's 0-0 with a 5.79 ERA in 14.0 innings.
