Last Time Out
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - In a game that ebbed and flowed as much as the on-and-off rain showers, Fordham (2-5) outlasted the Ospreys, 8-6, to force a series split at Harmon Stadium Sunday, Feb. 24.
Tanner Trio:
UNF has had three Tanners in its starting lineup four different times this season. On Wednesday at Florida the Ospreys got home runs out of
Tanner May and
Tanner Murphy, the only time in UNF history that two different Tanners have homered in the same game. The trio is hitting a combined .321 (26-81) this season.
Tanner Murphy is tied for the league lead in extra-base hits. This past weekend he posted a combined cycle between both games of UNF's Saturday twin bill.
UNF Debuts:
12 different players have made their UNF debuts this season, five being position players and seven pitchers.
Logan Clayton is one of the lone true freshman of those nine aforementioned newcomers. The tall righty has fanned four in 3.0 innings. Righty
Max McKinley was tabbed ASUN Pitcher of the Week for February 18. He is 1-1 with a 3.45 ERA, fanning 10 in 15.2 innings of work.
Swoopin' in the Swamp:
UNF scored early and often, clubbing three home runs to upend No. 3 Florida, 7-1, Wednesday, February 20. That win marked the second-highest ranked opponent that UNF has defeated in program history following UNF's defeat of Florida, 10-5, in 2012.
Weeks Showing No Weakness:
Redshirt-senior
Wes Weeks started as hot as any Ospreys has in school history over the first two games of a season. The right fielder hit safely in his first seven trips to the plate on the year, tying a UNF record for the most consecutive hits.
Florida Atlantic (3-4)
- FAU is 3-4 after getting swept by visiting Illinois this past weekend.
- The Owls were picked to finish third in the Conference USA Preseason Coaches Poll. They received one first place vote.
- Reliever Zach Schneider was a preseason all-conference honoree after notching 15 saves a year ago.
- Florida Atlantic swept Cincinnati to open the season.
- The Owls had a stellar 2018, finishing 43-19-1. They would advance to the Gainesville Regional of the NCAA Championship.
- FAU took games from Columbia, Jacksonville and Florida before ultimately being eliminated by the Gators.
