JACKSONVILLE - North Florida men's soccer hits the road for its two opponents, but it doesn't have to go far for the first as it plays in-town rival Jacksonville on Saturday at Southern Oak Stadium. The Ospreys then stay on the road to head to Mercer on Monday.
1. LAST TIME OUT - The Ospreys earned a point in ASUN play as they battled to a tie with conference rival, FGCU, on Saturday evening. Sophomore
Mirza Nevoric scored his first career goal with an assist from freshman
Robbie Soronellas.
2. ASUN WEEKLIES - North Florida has won back-to-back ASUN weekly awards. Senior
Torian Went garnered the honor after his game-winning goal against Liberty and then
Padraic Gilley picked up the Defensive Player of the Week after surrendering just two goals on the week to USF and FGCU. Gilley continues to lead the ASUN in GAA. North Florida has now won at least two weekly awards since 2016 and Gilley's award was the first defensive honor since 2016.
3. KEEP 'EM OFF THE BOARD - The Ospreys lead the league with a sub-1.00 GAA as only two teams have scored more than a goal. Georgia State and Georgia Southern each notched two. UNF also has two blank sheets to its stats.
4. RIVER CITY RUMBLE - North Florida has won five of the last seven meetings against Jacksonville. Last season,
Collin Scott scored a pair of goals against the Dolphins en route to an ASUN Player of the Week honor. The Ospreys have actually had more success at Southern Oak Stadium as the three of the last four contests at JU, UNF has come away with a win or a tie.
5. SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
The Dolphins are 4-2-2 on the year and 0-1-1 in ASUN play after falling to Lipscomb in the ASUN opener and knotting Stetson. JU is coming off its first shutout of the season at Georgia Southern with a 1-0 win on Tuesday. Connar Lufkin leads the team with three goals and one assist, while Mason Turnbridge has two goals and two assists to sit second on the team with six points. Inti Antunez and Jesus Colombo each have two goals. In the net, Matt Levy has a 1.18 GAA, picking up 44 saves.
Mercer is 7-2 on the season and is led by Trevor Martineau who ranks first in the SoCon in points (21), assists (7) and second in goals scored (7) this season. Jason Nduese-udom and Leo Toledo, Jr. each have two goals, while six other Bears have found the back of the net. Between the pipes, JR DeRose has picked up two shutouts and a 1.19 GAA. Mercer faces off with Georgia State on Saturday before hosting the ospreys.
