Philip Knowles Shoots Even Par in 1st Round of PGA's RBC Heritage

HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- North Florida junior golf standout Philip Knowles carded an even-par round 71 in Thursday's opening round of the PGA's RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links.

Knowles, a native of Bradenton, Fla., made his amateur debut in the professional event after earning an exempted invitation to the tournament field after winning the individual title at The Players Amateur this past summer.

Opening on the back 9 at Harbour Town, Knowles got off to a quick start with a birdie on his third hole. He made the turn at 1-over and closed with a pair of birdies in his final 9 including one on his final hole. Knowles ended the day in a tie for 49th in the 132 player field, and his performance has in front of recognizable PGA Tour stars like Davis Love III, Charl Schwartzl, Luke Donald, Paul Casey and Billy Hurley.

Knowles returns the links with a 1:50 p.m. tee time on Hole 1 in Friday's second round with hopes of making the cut and continuing play on the weekend.
