Women's Tennis Has Strong Opening Day at Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - North Florida women's tennis picked up three doubles and five singles victories on the opening day of the Seminole All-Conference Showdown on Friday.
The day opened with two straight wins from Lucia Montaño and Constanza Gorches in doubles play. The pair picked up a 7-5 victory against Tulane before coming back in round two and winning 6-3 against Middle Tennessee.
In singles play, Rafaela Gomez defeated Katarina Kozarov (Furman) 6-2, 6-4. Montaño continued her strong play with a three-set victory against Taylor Melville of Furman as well. Freshman Ana Paula Melilo got a three-set win over Paiton Wagner of Oregon. She dropped just one game in the opening frame before falling in the second set. She then bounced back in the final for the 10-7 win.
The sophomores also picked up victories after the matches were moved inside due to weather. Valentina Mariotto took down Daniela La Fuente of Tulane before Florencia Rossi closed up the night with a three-set victory over Troy's Tingting Pei.
Play begins tomorrow at 9 a.m. as long as the weather holds in Tallahassee. The teams will play one round of doubles followed by a singles round.
